Day 2: Jasper Highlights – Maligne Lake, SkyTram & Wildlife

Overview: A day dedicated to the best of Jasper, with a mix of a boat cruise, a scenic tram, and an evening wildlife drive. This itinerary is designed to be flexible and includes a dedicated rest window for the infant.

Morning: Maligne Lake & Spirit Island

  • Drive to Maligne Lake: A scenic 45-minute drive from Jasper.
  • Maligne Lake Boat Cruise: This 2-hour cruise to Spirit Island is a highlight. The boat is enclosed and heated, making it perfect for all. Pre-booking is essential.
  • Picnic Lunch at Maligne Complex: A relaxed lunch spot with high chairs and space for kids to run around.

Afternoon: SkyTram & Rest

  • Jasper SkyTram: A 15-minute ride takes you to the upper deck for spectacular views.
  • Dedicated Infant Rest: A protected 2-hour window at your accommodation for the baby to nap. Adults can take turns resting or preparing dinner.

Evening: Wildlife Drive & Stargazing

  • Evening Wildlife Drive: Take a slow drive along Maligne Lake Road. Stay in your vehicle and watch for elk, sheep, and deer from a safe distance[reference:17].
  • Stargazing (Adults Only): Jasper is a Dark Sky Preserve. One or two adults can head out for a short stargazing session while the other stays with the children.

Do’s & Don’ts for Families

  • Do pre-book the Maligne Lake cruise and SkyTram to avoid disappointment.
  • Do use the evening for a quiet, low-energy activity like a wildlife drive.
  • Don’t skip the rest window; overtired children (and adults) will struggle.
  • Don’t get out of your vehicle for wildlife photos. It is dangerous and illegal.
