Day 5 & 6: Yoho National Park & Calgary City Highlights

Overview: The final two days of the trip combine the natural beauty of Yoho National Park with family-friendly fun in Calgary. This provides a balanced end to the adventure, with shorter drives and plenty of opportunities for kids to burn off energy.

Day 5: Yoho National Park

  • Drive to Yoho: A 1.5-hour drive from Calgary.
  • Takakkaw Falls: A spectacular waterfall. Bring raincoats, as the mist can be heavy. The path is stroller-friendly.
  • Picnic Lunch: Enjoy lunch at the falls.
  • Emerald Lake: A beautiful lake where you can walk the first 2 km with a stroller or rent a canoe (optional).
  • Natural Bridge: A quick photo stop to see the powerful Kicking Horse River.
  • Drive back to Calgary: 2-hour drive.

Day 6: Calgary City Highlights & Departure

  • Drive to Johnston Canyon: A 1.5-hour drive from Calgary.
  • Johnston Canyon (Lower Falls): This is a stroller-friendly walk on a boardwalk to a beautiful waterfall. It is a perfect final hike for the family.
  • Drive to Calgary Tower: Head into the city for the afternoon.
  • Calgary Tower: Kids will love the glass floor. An infant can be carried in a carrier.
  • Stephen Avenue & Prince’s Island Park: A short walk for ice cream and a visit to a great playground with a river walk.
  • Early Dinner: Enjoy a final family meal before heading to the airport for your departure.

Do’s & Don’ts for Families

  • Do pack rain gear for Yoho, even if it looks sunny.
  • Do choose the Lower Falls hike at Johnston Canyon for a family-friendly option.
  • Do let the kids run off energy at Prince’s Island Park before the flight.
  • Don’t attempt the full Upper Falls hike at Johnston Canyon if you have young children or a stroller.
  • Don’t forget to leave extra time for returning your rental car and getting to the airport.
