What is AI really?
When most people hear “Artificial Intelligence,” they picture robots taking over the world. In reality, AI today is much simpler.
Think of AI as a super-smart pattern matcher. It doesn’t “think” like a human. Instead, it has been fed millions of examples and learned to predict what comes next. For example, when you type “How is the wea…” your phone predicts you want to say “weather.” That’s a basic form of AI.
The two types you need to know:
• Narrow AI: This is what we have today. It is built for one specific task. Your Netflix recommendations, your Google Maps route, and autocorrect are all Narrow AI. They are very good at their one job, but they can’t do anything else.
• General AI (AGI): This is the sci-fi stuff. A machine that can think and learn exactly like a human, across any topic. This does not exist yet.
Right now, AI is just a tool. It is a very powerful calculator for words, images, and data. It is not alive, and it doesn’t have feelings.
