Youth Activities Beyond School
Overview
Ontario offers a wide range of extracurricular activities that help youth develop skills, make friends, and engage with the community.
Scouts Canada
Ages: Programs for youth aged 5 to 26 (Beaver Scouts: 5-7, Cub Scouts: 8-10, Scouts: 11-14).
Activities: Outdoor education, camping, leadership, and community service.
Registration: Registration for the 2026-2027 scouting year opens in June 2026 for new members. Register at scouts.ca/join.
Sports, Arts, and Volunteering
Municipal Recreation: Most cities and towns offer registered sports leagues, swimming lessons, and arts programs through their community services departments. Check your local municipality's website.
Sports Organizations: Look for local minor hockey, soccer, baseball, and other sport associations.
Arts and Culture: Community centers and private studios offer classes in visual arts, dance, drama, and music.
Volunteering: Many organizations, such as food banks, community centers, and hospitals, offer volunteer opportunities for youth. This is an excellent way to gain experience and give back.
